6 Eye Bag Remedies Elevé’s Experts Swear By
The delicate tissue surrounding your eyes can be easily damaged, because it’s significantly thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. As you age, that tissue loses its firmness, and your facial muscles weaken. The fat supporting your eyes gradually moves into the lower eyelids, leading to puffiness. But, don't worry! This issue can be effectively addressed with a variety of treatments, some of which are as simple as changing your daily routine or incorporating something new into your skincare regimen.
In this article, we’re sharing our top tips to reduce under-eye bags and fine lines.
Cold compresses or tea bags
One simple solution is to use a cold compress, such as a gel mask, cucumber slices, chilled spoons, or a bag of frozen vegetables. Caffeinated tea bags are particularly effective because they act as a mild diuretic, minimizing the pooling of fluid around the eye area. Tea bags also contain antioxidants that can increase blood flow in the skin.
Nightly makeup removal
It's important to remove your makeup each night before bed, as neglecting to properly cleanse your eyes can leave them irritated and puffy. Exfoliate by gently running a moist washcloth across your eyelids and the full length of the lashes, including their base. This will help prevent a buildup of sweat, oil and makeup along your lash line.
Reduced salt intake
Reducing your salt intake can also help prevent bags under your eyes. Eating foods with too much salt causes your body to retain water, making you look puffy—from your feet up to your eyelids. To limit the sodium in your diet, avoid processed or pre-packaged foods, and drink plenty of water throughout the day to reduce the effect of the sodium you do ingest.
Limited sun exposure
UV light can be particularly damaging to the thin, delicate skin around your eyes. Prolonged exposure can result in premature aging.
